Grace's Garden

 Matthew 25:35-36

"...for I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you gave me clothing,
I was sick and you took care of me,
I was in prison and you visited me."

Grace's Garden:An Urban Farm is Grace Church's newest feeding ministry. In the Fall of 2009 land was tilled on the church's grounds to prepare the earth for planting. The Garden is in the shape of a large cross, an outward and visible sign that the earth is the Lord's and that we are called to be good stewards of God's good creation.

Grace members gathered to ask God's blessings and prayed that God would bless their efforts to feed the hungry from the good earth which with God had blessed them. In the Spring of 2010 Grace Church members of all ages planted crops which bore amazing fruit!

Each week Grace Church members harvested beautiful vegetables and took them to Harvesters City Union Mission to be distributed to people who rarely have access to fresh vegetables. During the Summer of 2010, over 1,500 pounds of green beans, egg plant, tomatoes, okra, squash, and green peppers have been contributed. The harvest was plentiful and so were the laborers at Grace!

Summer 2011 - Grace's Garden is thriving and we hope to provide lots of fresh vegetables for Harvesters.

This Spring we tilled the land for additional gardens and this summer 21 families are gardening in Grace's Community Gardens. 10 % of what is grown in these gardens will go to Harvesters; the rest will be used by the families who are caring for their gardens.

We also built two grape fences and are now growing grapes which one day will be used to make our Communion wine!

The first apple has appeared on one of our apple trees!

We rejoice in the good earth with which God has blessed us and we give thanks for Grace laborers who are working to bring forth crops to help feed a hungry world.
